Dancers

Principal Dancer Carlos Hopuy was born in Havana, Cuba, where he trained at the Escuela Nacional de Arte.  He has performed with Ballet de la Habana in Cuba and was principal dancer with Compania Nacional de Danza and Compania de Ballet Ateliev in Costa Rica.  Carlos has participated in many international ballet competitions and has performed in England, Colombia, Nicaragua, Japan, Costa Rica and Cuba.  In 1999 he won a gold medal at the International Ballet Competition in Havana, where he was also presented with a special award for his great talent. He won gold medals again at the same competition in 2001 and 2002.  In 2002 he won a gold medal at the International Ballet Competition in Nagoya, Japan.  In 2009 he won the Premio Nacional de Danza in Costa Rica.   In the summer of 2010,  Mr. Hopuy was a finalist at the International Ballet Competition held in Jackson, Mississippi. This is Mr. Hopuy’s third season with Ballet San Antonio.
