Sofie Bertolini began her dance training at age four in Austin, TX. She received the bulk of her training at Ballet Austin Academy under Bill Piner, Lynne Short, and Jennifer Hart, with additional training at Boston Ballet, Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre, Austin Dance Academy, and Austin Conservatory of the Arts. She grew up performing with the Youth Ballet Theatre and Austin Dance Ensemble under Arletta Howard-Logan, where her love for the stage was discovered and cultivated.

After being invited to become a Trainee with Ballet Austin under Michelle Martin and Stephen Mills, Sofie’s professional career continued with Austin Metamorphosis Dance Ensemble under Melanie S. Kregel, and The Dance Project under Latisha Coffey and Diana Wang. Sofie went on to join Ballet San Antonio in 2014.

Since joining, Sofie has performed many principal roles including Aurora in Sleeping Beauty, Sugar Plum in The Nutcracker, Giselle and Carmen in their namesakes, in George Balanchine’s Rubies, and in various original works. She has also enjoyed performing such roles as Snow Queen in The Nutcracker, Lucy in Dracula, a Cygnet in Ben Stevenson’s Swan Lake; along with featured roles in Gerald Arpino’s Confetti, George Balanchine’s Donizetti Variations, and Dominic Walsh’s The Whistling.

Rivard Report’s Tami Kegley writes, “Special kudos go to Sofie Bertolini for her sass and vinegar. She not only performed [The Whistling] immaculately, she brought it alive with a toughness and humor that was sublime.”
