Corps De Ballet
Sierra Ortega began her training in Huntsville, Alabama under the direction of Keren Gibb-Hilliard and David Herriott. In 2009, she received a scholarship to attend the Alabama Ballet School in Birmingham, Alabama where she participated in performances and touring engagements with the main company. Her roles included swan corps in Swan Lake as well as Chinese demi-soloist, and corps de ballet in Spanish, Snow, and Flowers in George Balanchine’s The Nutcracker. She furthered her training as a scholarship student at Summer programs including Boston Ballet, Houston Ballet, and Pacific Northwest Ballet.
Ortega is a graduate of Butler University where she studied Dance and Strategic Communication. Over the course of her education, she trained and performed across Poland, Slovakia, and the Czech Republic with the university’s dance department and held a marketing internship with NASA.
Since joining Ballet San Antonio, Sierra has had the opportunity to perform corps de ballet and featured roles in ballets such as George Balanchine’s Rubies, Edwaard Liang’s Romeo & Juliet, Brian Enos’ Alice in Wonderland and Bruce Wells’ Beauty and the Beast. She has also served as an instructor in Ballet San Antonio’s Learning that Moves You Program.
She is excited to begin her fourth season with Ballet San Antonio and wishes to thank her family for all of their love and support.

What is your favorite way to spend a weekend? I love going on mini road trips. There are so many cool places to visit in Texas! My most recent mini road trip was a camping trip to Big Bend National Park. Next up are the Magnolia Market at the Silos in Waco, TX, the Hill Country wineries, and NASA’s Johnson Space Center in Houston, TX.
If you could go anywhere, where would it be? I think I would have to choose Prague. I’ve had the opportunity to visit a few times through study abroad programs in college. Every time I visit, I discover a new facet of the city that makes me fall in love with it all over again. I also love America’s National Parks and have a big collection of Junior Ranger badges!
What do you like to do when you’re not working? I really enjoy exploring San Antonio with my friends. I love trying out new restaurants, visiting museums, and attending performances by other local arts organizations. I also like naps, bubble baths with extra bubbles, Netflix (I’m currently re-watching Scandal for the second time), and hanging out with my cat, Muffin.
