About Sarah Hoover
ART HISTORIAN, WRITER, CULTURAL CRITIC AND CONSULTANT
For almost 15 years, Hoover served as a dealer, artist liaison and director at Gagosian, the largest and most prominent international gallery. Managing a diverse group of artists ranging from classically trained contemporary painters of the natural world, to photographers capturing large scale industrial images, Hoover’s role included curatorial advising for those artists, acquisitions guidance on the primary and secondary markets for private and institutional clients, all aspects of collection management, appraisals, research, and writing.
She holds a masters degree in Cultural Theory from Columbia and a BA in Art History from NYU, and was born and raised in Indianapolis, Indiana, a community she remains involved with and connected to, sitting as an advisory member on the board of the Patachou Foundation, an Indianapolis-based non profit which aims to cultivate an equitable future for youth by amplifying their access to and education about food.
In New York, Sarah straddles the art, fashion, dance, food, non profit and literary worlds. She co-founded the Accelerator Committee at American Ballet Theater, which encourages cross pollination between the arts, fashion, film, and female-led choreographic initiatives. She sits on the board of Art Production Fund, which curates and produces public art projects across America. Coalition for the Homeless and Sky High Farm Foundation are other non profits with which she partners to help with fundraising and advocacy. This summer, Sarah taught the course “Art History of the Exploited Feminist Self” at Barnard College, and will return in 2023.
Sarah is currently working on a memoir about her experience with pregnancy, motherhood, the art world, and the oppressive aspects of patriarchy.
A prolific essayist, you can find her newest work on vogue.com.
A television series based on Sarah’s forthcoming book has been optioned by MakeReady, where the pilot is well underway.
Sarah has been featured in The Cut, Vogue, Grub Street, Vanity Fair, the NYT, and Noor Tagouri’s The Process podcast, among others.
