Ballet San Antonio is the city’s premier professional ballet company and the resident ballet company of the Tobin Center for the Performing Arts. We reach approximately 30,000 members of our community every year, and we are dedicated to raising the barre with each performance and outreach effort.
During the 2014-2015 season, we are featuring four major productions — Artistic Director Gabriel Zertuche’s Dracula and The Nutcracker, Ben Stevenson’s Romeo and Juliet, and Balanchine, showcasing choreography by the iconic George Balanchine and a variety of contemporary pieces. These productions highlight the choreography of both local and international artists, and make ballet accessible for all.
As part of our mission to enrich and widen our community’s exposure to the arts, we regularly collaborate with the San Antonio Symphony (The Nutcracker and Romeo and Juliet) and partner with other area arts organizations to promote our work across audiences and mediums. Our community performances include Luminaria, the Artist Foundation’s Art Ball and Fiesta events, among many others.
In addition, our longstanding educational program, Learning That Moves You, brings ballet to thousands of children throughout greater San Antonio. In 2014, our partnership with the Boys and Girls Clubs of San Antonio led to our partnership with American Ballet Theatre’s prestigious “Project Plié” program, an initiative to increase ballet’s racial and ethnic representation and diversify America’s ballet companies.
