Emily Johnson began dancing at the age of three. At age thirteen, she started training pre-professionally at Orlando Ballet School.
There, she was given the opportunity to perform among company members in Orlando Ballet’s professional production of The Nutcracker. Since then, she has trained at Ballet East, University of North Carolina School of the Arts, and The Sarasota Ballet’s Margaret Barbieri Conservatory. She is very grateful to have been trained by teachers and directors such as Phillip Broomhead, Gonzalo Espinoza, Charmaine Hunter, Dierdre Miles Burger, and Christopher Hird.
She has attended summer intensives including Bolshoi Ballet Academy, The Harid Conservatory, Royal Ballet School, and Ballet West. During these intensives, she danced in original contemporary works created by Rex Tilton and Charlotte Edmonds. Emily is looking forward to beginning her professional career with Ballet San Antonio for the 2024-2025 season.
GET TO KNOW Emily
When did you start dancing, and why?
I was enrolled in ballet class as a toddler. Since then I’ve never stopped! I continue to dance because I feel it is what I was created to do.
What inspires you to be a professional dancer?
Watching my favorite principal ballet dancers has always been a great source for inspiration. My family continues to inspire me with the love and support they’ve given me throughout my training and career.
Why did you choose Ballet San Antonio?
I chose Ballet San Antonio because of the conversation I had with Sofiane during my audition process. She is an excellent artist and leader and made me feel sure that this would be an amazing company for me.
