About The Show

Act 1

Our story begins in the Spanish countryside in a small village which is full of life, kids, and villagers dancing. Sometimes people from the big city come to visit – you can spot them by their fancy clothes, their Torredor (bullfighting) capes, and their sometimes-upturned noses.

In this village, live the young lovebirds Kitri and Basilio – however, it soon becomes clear that Kitri’s father, Lorenzo, does not approve of their match. Against Kitri’s wishes, Lorenzo decides that she should be married to Gamache, a rich Nobleman.

When Don Quixote and Sancho Panza stumble upon this village, Don Quixote sees Kitri, and is convinced that she is his imagined, idealized love, Dulcinea.

With the help of some dear friends, Kitri and Basilio sneak off from the village into the forest to escape all this mess, but they’re followed by Don Quixote, Sancho, Lorenzo, and Gamache.

Act 2

Deep in the forest, Kitri and Basilio meet a fortune teller traveling with some nomads, who helps them know that everything will turn out alright.

Suddenly, a big storm blows in. Don Quixote, in an attempt to act valiantly, begins to attack a windmill, but he soon is struck by lightning and transported into a land of spirits, cupids, dryads, and nymphs. In this mystical space, Don Quixote realizes that Kitri is not his love Dulcinea, and agrees she should be able to be happy and marry Basilio, whom she loves.

Once they’re back in the village, everyone is in preparation for the marriage between Kitri and the rich Gamache! However – her love Basilio comes up with a cunning plan to pretend to take his own life so that everyone believes him to be out of the way. He fakes his death, but Kitri soon realizes what’s happening and joins in on the plot. She begs for her father’s blessing of her love for Basilio, while he is playing dead, before she has to go off and marry Gamache “for real”.  Don Quixote forces Kitri’s father to give his blessing, and suddenly, Basilio comes to life again! Gamache is run out of town, and the lovers are finally able to be together.
