The School of Ballet San Antonio’s June Summer Session program provides dancers ages 2 and above, the opportunity to work with our professional staff to emphasize the French curriculum of musicality, sound technique and a strong focus on alignment of the body.

*Summer classes in the Pre-Professional Division will operate under different level names, please check below to see which level to register for.

Class Descriptions

Pre-Ballet 3-4

Students in this level are introduced to the art of dance through movement exploration, creative imagery, props, and musical identification.

Meets once a week for 1 hour, ages 3-4

 

Pre-Ballet 4-5

The second year of Pre-Ballet expands upon the concepts introduced in Pre-Ballet A. Students will dive
deeper into the rhythm, and locomotor movements, and expand their imagination.

Meets once a week for 1 hour, ages 4-5

 

Primary 5-6

Primary A will further expand on the students’ creative exploration, strength building, teamwork, and discipline. Additionally, this level introduces basic ballet vocabulary.

Meets once a week for 1 hour, ages 5-6

 

Primary 6-7

The second year of Primary continues to grow the ballet vocabulary and introduces the ballet class structure. Creativity and deepening musical understanding deepen.

Meets once a week for 1 hour, ages 6-7

 

Level 1

Continuing to build on the ballet class structure, Level 1 deepens the ballet vocabulary. This class aims to strengthen technique, stamina, and concentration as well as introduce barre work.

Meets twice a week for 1 hour, enrollment by placement only.

 

Level 2

This level builds on the skills and vocabulary mastered in Level I. Classes aim to strengthen technique, stamina, and concentration. Classtime extends by 15 minutes.

Meets twice a week for 1 hour and 30 minutes, enrollment by placement only.

 

Level 3

Level 3 builds on the skills and vocabulary mastered in prior levels, now attending 3 times a week. Classes aim to strengthen technique, stamina, and concentration. 

Meets three times a week for 1 hour and 30 minutes, enrollment by placement only.

 

Level 4

Level 4 builds on the skills and vocabulary mastered in prior levels, now attending 3 or 4 times a week. Classes aim to strengthen technique, stamina, and concentration. Pointe work is introduced at this level when appropriate. 

Meets four times a week for 1 hour and 30 minutes, enrollment by placement only.

Level 5

Level 5 builds on the skills and vocabulary mastered in prior levels, now attending 4 or 5 times a week. Classes aim to strengthen technique, stamina, and concentration. Pointe work continues and advances in this level.

Meets five times a week for 1 hour and 45 minutes, enrollment by placement only.

Level 6

Level 6 builds on the skills and vocabulary mastered in prior levels, now attending 5 times a week. Classes aim to strengthen technique, stamina, and concentration. A separate pointe class begins at this level.

Meets five times a week for 2 hours and 15 minutes, enrollment by placement only.

Boys Class

For all level boys in addition to their assigned technique class. Focusing on strength, line, discipline, and quality of movement with a male instructor.

Meets once a week for 1 hour, enrollment by placement only.

PRE-BALLET DIVISION

Pre-Ballet Division classes are for students ages 2-7 years old. Students in these levels are introduced to the art of dance through movement exploration, creative imagery, props, and musical identification. No prior dance experience necessary.

Dance with me 2+

Dance with Me 2+ is a fun and bonding dance class for students age 2, and their parent or caregiver. This class introduces young dancers to the dance studio through creative movement, rhythm, musicality, and social skills. Dance with Me 2+ meets once a week for 45 minutes.

Ages 2+ (as of September 2024)

Hummingbirds (ages 3-4)

Students in this level are introduced to the art of dance through movement exploration, creative imagery, props, and musical identification. This is the first class dancers are independent of their parent or caregiver. Hummingbirds meet once a week for 1 hour.

Ages 3-4 (3 as of September 2024)

Wrens (ages 4-5)

Wrens will dive deeper into the rhythm, and locomotor movements, and expand their imagination. In this level students are introduced to muscle identification, posture awareness, and beginning ballet concepts. Wrens meet once a week for 1 hour.

Ages 4-5 (4 as of September 2024)

Robins (ages 5-6)

Robins will further expand on the students’ creative exploration, strength building, teamwork, and discipline. The building blocks of basic ballet vocabulary and structure are introduced. Robins meet once a week for 1 hour.

Ages 5-6 (5 as of September 2024)

Owls (ages 6-7)

Owls grow the ballet vocabulary and expand on the ballet class structure, with the barre introduced in the Spring. Creativity and deepening musical understanding continue to be explored. Owls meet once a week for 1 hour.

Ages 6-7 (6 as of September 2024)

Pre-Professional Division

Pre-Professional Division classes are for students 8-18 years old looking to train seriously in ballet on a professional track. These levels are by placement only, please contact SBSA to schedule a free trial class.

Level 1

The first level of the Pre-Professional Division, Level 1 continues to build on the ballet class structure and deepen the ballet vocabulary. This class aims to strengthen technique, stamina, and concentration for beginning ballet students. Level 1 meets twice a week for 1 hour.

Enrollment by placement only

Level 2

Level 2 builds on the skills and vocabulary mastered in Level 1, with class time extending by 15 minutes. Added emphasis is placed on posture, placement, and material retention. Level 2 meets twice a week for 1.25 hours. 

Modern classes are required and included as part of the tuition when enrolling in this class. Modern takes place on Tuesdays from 6:15 – 7:15.

Level 3

Level 3 builds on the skills and vocabulary mastered in prior levels, now attending more and with extended class times. Students are introduced to more challenging material, and higher demand is placed on execution of existing technique. Level 3 meets three times a week for 1.5 hours. 

Modern classes are required and included as part of the tuition when enrolling in this class. Modern classes take place on Tuesdays from 6:15 – 7:15.

Level 4

Level 4 classes aim to strengthen technique, further expand vocabulary, and build strength in ankles and feet with Pre-Pointe. Pointe work is introduced at this level in the Spring Session. Level 4 meets three times a week for 1.5 hours with an optional Saturday class.

Level 5

Level 5 technique continues to build with more demanding material and advancing pointe work. Level 5 meets four times a week for 1.5-2 hours depending on the day with an optional Saturday class. Modern and Pilates classes are required and included as part of the tuition when enrolling in this class.

Level 6 focuses technique and the vocabulary deepens, with an emphasis placed on refining and growing pointe work execution with extended class times. Level 6 meets five times a week for 1.5-2 hours. Modern and Pilates classes are required and included as part of the tuition when enrolling in this class.

Level 7

Level 7 attends 5 days a week, with an optional Saturday class. Technique and vocabulary deepens, with an emphasis placed on refining and growing pointe work execution with extended class times. Additional Classes

Rec Ballet Classes for students ages 8-18 looking for a less intensive track, joining 1-2 Ballet classes per week.

Modern, Jazz, and Pilates classes are open for all students enrolled in the Pre-Professional and Rec Ballet classes.

Pre-Ballet Jazz

Open to Robins and Owls, Jazz dance includes strength, flexibility and conditioning technique and progressions including turns, kicks and leaps. Dancers also learn many fun dance steps that are used for all forms of dance. This class meets once a week for 1 hour.

Ages 5-7 (5 as of September 2024)

Level 1-4  Jazz & Level 4-5 Jazz

Open to Pre-Professional Division students in Levels 1-4 and 4-5 respectively, Jazz dance includes strength, flexibility and conditioning technique and progressions including turns, kicks and leaps. Dancers also learn many fun dance steps that are used for all forms of dance. These classes meets once a week for 1 hour. 

Levels 1-4, 4-5

Level 6-7 Jazz

Open to Pre-Professional Division students in Levels 6-7, Jazz dance includes strength, flexibility and conditioning technique and progressions including turns, kicks and leaps. Dancers also learn many fun dance steps that are used for all forms of dance. This class meets once a week for 1 hour.

Levels 4-7

Levels 2/3, 4/5, and 6/7 Modern

Open to Pre-Professional Division students in Levels 4-7, Modern classes will incorporate many of the foundations of modern dance technique, including suspension and release, fall and recovery, the use of momentum and connecting breath with movement. Dancers will explore new ways of moving in combinations, floor work and improvisation. These classes meet once a week for 1 hour.

Levels 2-3, 4-5, 6-7

Rec Ballet A (ages 8-12)

Rec Ballet A is for dancers ages 8-12 who would like to add ballet to their artistic endeavors, or continue their classical training while pursuing other interests. Classes meet once a week for 1 hour and follow the SBSA curriculum.

Rec Ballet B (13-18)

Rec Ballet B is for dancers ages 13-18 who would like to add ballet to their artistic endeavors, or continue their classical training while pursuing other interests. Classes meet twice a week for 1 hour and 15 minutes and follow the SBSA curriculum.

PRE-BALLET DIVISION

Pre-Ballet Division classes are for students ages 2-7 years old. Students in these levels are introduced to the art of dance through movement exploration, creative imagery, props, and musical identification. No prior dance experience necessary.

Dance with me 2+

Seen throughout the studios of the world on the finest professional dancers, SBSA is thrilled to share the news that Keto has custom designed the uniforms of SBSA!

Levels 1-6 have a unique leotard created by Keto. Pre-Ballet and Primary students wear uniforms by Repetto. All uniforms are purchased at the school.

Tuition & Fees

Tuition for the June Summer Session is one payment drafted on June 1st. SBSA offers a 10% discount to families with more than one child enrolled, as well as a 10% discount for active military.

Refund & Withdrawal Policy

All tuition and fees paid to SBSA are non-refundable. Fees may not be transferred or extended towards future tuition. If a student wishes to withdraw from SBSA, we must receive written notification 30 days prior. SBSA is not liable or obligated in any way tpo process any refunds or issue any tuition credits. No refunds or credits are granted for missed classes or early withdrawal.
