All performances of Carmen are part of our Send the Kids to the Ballet program, which provides children from local schools and community organizations with free tickets and transportation. This initiative is designed to reach those who might not otherwise have access due to economic, geographic, or personal barriers.

About the Choreographer

YOSVANI CORTELLAN

Yosvani Cortellan is a Cuban American dancer, choreographer, and dance educator with an extensive professional career and international experience as a performing artist. Trained in the rich Cuban dance tradition, he developed a strong foundation in classical ballet, contemporary dance, and stage performance, shaping a career defined by discipline, versatility, artistry, and technical excellence.

Throughout his career as a dancer, Mr. Cortellan has performed in a variety of national and international settings, bringing to the stage a powerful combination of technique, musicality, and expressive depth. His performance experience has allowed him to work across diverse artistic environments, collaborate with artists from different cultural backgrounds, and develop a broad understanding of dance as a universal language.

As a choreographer, Mr. Cortellan is known for creating works that blend technical precision with emotional storytelling. His choreographic style reflects his international artistic perspective, his Cuban roots, and his commitment to developing dancers who are not only technically strong but also expressive, confident, and connected to the meaning behind the movement.

He currently serves as the Dance Program Coordinator at Saint Mary’s Hall Dance Program, where he leads young dancers through training, rehearsals, productions, and performance opportunities. His teaching is deeply influenced by his professional experience as a performer and choreographer, allowing him to guide students with high standards, care, and a strong sense of artistic purpose.

Mr. Cortellan continues to inspire the next generation of dancers by sharing his passion for dance and his belief in the transformative power of the performing arts.
