Zane is a San Diego-based dancer, who began his training at the age of 10. He began his training at the Tuzer Dance Studio in Texas. After moving to California, he studied under the training of Trystan Merrick at BalletCenter Studios, and Maxim Tchernychev at California Professional Ballet Program.

He has guested primarily in San Diego, such as performing in San Diego City Ballet’s Romeo and Juliet and California Ballet’s The Nutcracker. He has performed soloist roles in productions such as but not limited to Paquita, Nutcracker, Copelia, Phantom of the Opera, Sleeping Beauty, and Cinderella. While it won’t be Zane’s first time living in Texas, it will be his first time living in San Antonio!

His favorite role is Blue Bird, and his dream role is Hilarion from Giselle. His favorite part of ballet is pas de deux, and his second is the costumes – the last piece that brings each character to life! While having focused on classical ballet training, Zane doesn’t shy away from new artistic endeavors. He has worked with Disco Riot, a contemporary company based in San Diego, as well as working closely with opera!

GET TO KNOW Zane

When did you start dancing, and why?
I started dancing when I was 10 years old. My younger sister was in ballet, so I spent a lot of time at the studio, and I was friends with one of the boys. Eventually, I saw her in the Nutcracker, and I fell in love with Russian and Cavalier. After the show, I got to meet both of these roles, and I’ve been dancing ever since!

What inspires you to be a professional dancer?
Dancing affects every aspect of my life in a positive way. It inspires me to work hard, introduces me to incredible people, and gives me wonderful opportunities. Dancing is my purpose, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Why did you choose Ballet San Antonio?
When I first approached Ballet San Antonio, the team was incredibly kind, helpful, and honest. I had also been exposed to how kind and supportive the company dancers are beforehand, and knew that I could truly improve dancing here. I was also ecstatic to work with Sofiane Sylve!
